Camel Rides — No Minimum Age
Camel rides have no minimum age requirement. Very young children (infants and toddlers) ride in front of a parent or guardian who holds them securely during the ride. Children from approximately age 4 or 5 who are comfortable and confident can sit on a camel independently with a handler walking alongside holding the lead rope. From around age 7–8, children typically ride independently on their own camel with a handler nearby. The gentle pace of a camel ride means it is one of the most universally accessible activities available in Marrakech — suitable for everything from a 1-year-old in a parent's arms to guests well into their eighties. Camel sessions are offered in both the Palmeraie and the Agafay Desert.
Quad Biking — Pillion from Any Age, Solo from 14
Quad biking age requirements depend on whether the child will ride pillion (as a passenger with an adult) or independently. Pillion riding is available from any age — children sit in front of or behind a parent on a larger quad, with the adult operating the vehicle. Solo quad riding is typically available from age 14 with written parental or guardian consent. However, the practical consideration is physical: a child must be tall enough to comfortably reach the handlebars and brakes of the quad being used. A physically mature 13-year-old of above-average height is functionally equivalent to a 14-year-old for this purpose, and our guides assess readiness individually during the pre-ride briefing rather than applying a rigid age cutoff. All solo riders of any age complete the full safety briefing and use automatic quads with no manual gear changing required.
Buggy Tours — 18 to Drive, 16+ as Passenger
Buggy tours have the strictest age requirements of any activity. The minimum age to drive a buggy is 18 years old, with a valid driving licence required in most cases. Young people aged 16 or 17 may be permitted in the passenger seat of a buggy driven by an adult, subject to operator policy and parental consent. Children under 16 are generally not permitted in buggies as passengers due to the safety harness and structural requirements of the vehicle at higher speeds. If you have a mixed-age group where some members cannot access the buggy activity, we can combine a buggy session for eligible guests with a simultaneous camel or quad pillion session for younger members — message us to discuss the options.

Horseback riding is available from approximately age 6, accompanied by an adult handler walking alongside. Younger children (3–5) can sometimes ride a small, very docile pony with a handler in complete control of the horse, but this varies by availability. Older children (10+) who have prior riding experience can ride more independently. Helmets are provided and are mandatory for all child riders. If horseback riding is a priority for your family, mention this specifically when you enquire, as it is available as part of specific Atlas and Agafay horse and camel ride packages rather than all excursions.
Why Ages Vary and How We Assess Children Individually
Published age minimums are guidelines, not inflexible rules. Physical size, maturity, and prior experience matter more than a calendar date. A large, confident 13-year-old who rides a mountain bike regularly will handle an automatic quad safely; a small or nervous 15-year-old may be better served by the pillion option for their first session.
