What We Provide
Before we dive into what you need to bring, here's what's already included with every quad biking excursion we offer:
- Helmet: Full safety helmet, sanitised between each use
- Goggles or visor: Protects your eyes from dust and wind
- Brief safety training: How to operate the quad, hand signals, and route overview
Everything else — clothing, shoes, and personal items — is your responsibility. The good news is that you probably already have everything you need in your suitcase.
Essential Clothing
Footwear (Most Important)
Wear closed-toe shoes that you don't mind getting dusty. Trainers, hiking shoes, or sturdy canvas sneakers are all perfect. The key requirements are: closed toe, secure fit (no slip-ons), and a sole with some grip. You'll be pressing pedals and planting your feet on uneven ground, so secure footwear is non-negotiable.
Trousers
Long trousers are strongly recommended. Jeans, cargo pants, lightweight hiking trousers, or even leggings all work well. Long pants protect your legs from sun, dust spray, occasional splashes of mud, and minor scrapes from vegetation. If you absolutely prefer shorts, choose knee-length or longer — but expect dusty legs.
Upper Body
A breathable, fitted t-shirt or long-sleeved top works best. Avoid anything very loose or flowing that could catch in the wind or on the quad's handles. In cooler months (November to March), bring a light jacket or zip-up fleece that you can tie around your waist if you warm up during the ride.
Seasonal Adjustments
Summer (May to September)
- Lightweight, breathable fabrics (cotton or moisture-wicking synthetics)
- Light colours to reflect heat
- Long sleeves can actually feel cooler by blocking direct sun
- A buff or lightweight neck scarf to pull over your nose in dusty sections
Winter (November to March)
- Layer up: base layer, mid-layer fleece, and a windproof outer layer
- Wind chill on the quad makes temperatures feel 5-10 degrees colder
- Gloves (thin, fitted — not bulky ski gloves) improve grip and warmth
- A neck warmer or buff protects against cold air and dust
What NOT to Wear
This is just as important as knowing what to wear. Avoid these common mistakes:
- Sandals, flip-flops, or open shoes: You will be turned away. This is a safety requirement, not a suggestion.
- Loose scarves or dangling accessories: These can get caught in moving parts. Tuck everything in securely or leave it behind.
- White or brand-new clothes: The desert dust is orange-brown and fine. It gets everywhere. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty — they'll wash out, but why risk your favourite outfit?
- Heavy jewellery: Rings, bracelets, and necklaces can get uncomfortable under gloves or catch during the ride. Leave them at the hotel safe.
- Very baggy or flowing garments: Loose fabric flaps in the wind, obscures your vision, and risks snagging. Fitted is safer and more comfortable.
Accessories and Extras
- Sunscreen (SPF 50): Apply before you leave. The desert sun is intense even on overcast days, and you can't reapply while riding.
- Dust scarf or buff: A versatile accessory that protects your face, neck, and nose from dust. Available cheaply in any Marrakech souk if you don't have one.
- Sunglasses with a strap: Useful before and after the ride (you'll wear goggles during). A retaining strap prevents loss.
- Small backpack or bum bag: For carrying water, phone, and sunscreen. Must sit flat and secure — nothing dangling.
Photography Tips
Want photos of your ride? Here's how to keep your phone safe:
- Use a zipped pocket or secure phone pouch with a lanyard around your neck
- Do NOT hold your phone while riding — you need both hands on the handlebars
- Our guides stop at scenic viewpoints specifically for photo opportunities
- A GoPro or action camera mounted to your helmet captures the best footage — ask our team about mounting options
What to Bring vs Leave at the Hotel
Bring:
- Small water bottle (we provide water too, but extra never hurts)
- Sunscreen
- Phone in a secure pocket
- Small amount of cash for tips (optional)
- Dust scarf or buff
Leave at hotel:
- Expensive jewellery and watches
- Large bags or purses
- Passports and travel documents
- Anything you'd be upset to lose or damage
